Barriers of Blockchain Technology Adoption in businesses: A Literature Review

Résumé

          Blockchain technology has been the subject of numerous studies however its adoption has faced some challenges from many companies. The purpose of this article is to investigate the barriers associated with blockchain technology adoption through the perspective of the technological-organizational-environmental (TOE) paradigm.

Our research approach is based on a literature review methodology. A selection of 143 articles was analyzed to provide a debate on the obstacles of blockchain deployment through the TOE framework.

The study’s findings have important theoretical and managerial ramifications, as well as a deep insight for businesses wanting to comprehend the obstacles and prospects of blockchain implementation for competitive performance improvement. It shows that even though Blockchain technology might change a company’s operations and make the activity of businesses much easier thanks to its characteristics, there exist so many barriers that prevent investors from adopting such technology in industry.
